Suraksha Saathi initiative launched by the District Disaster Management Authority (West Delhi) is a pioneering effort to transform an entire district into a disaster-prepared community by training millions in lifesaving skills and emergency response. This initiative will significantly enhance disaster preparedness, response capabilities, and community resilience in West Delhi, setting an example for urban disaster management in India. The name itself means “Safety Companion,” reflecting its goal to empower local communities with knowledge, tools, and support to effectively manage disasters and minimize their impacts.

Objectives in Disaster Management

1. Community Empowerment:

• Train local volunteers or public (Suraksha Saathis) who act as first responders during emergencies.
• Build awareness about various types of disasters (natural like floods, earthquakes, cyclones, and man-made like fire hazards).

2. Preparedness & Risk Reduction:
